SWAMI SHRIYUKTESHWAR’S BIRTHDAY
Swami Shriyukteshwar was born in Serampore, on the banks of the river Ganga on the 10th of May, 1855. His childhood name was Priyanath, which means, ‘loving the Lord’.
Swami Shriyukteshwar was different from other Masters. He was more introverted, less inclined to talk, and was absorbed in God-consciousness most of the time, firmly established in shambhavi state.
Even when his eyes were open, he was merged in infinity, without any awareness of the outer world. Even his closest disciples did not dare to talk openly and freely to him.
Swami Shriyukteshwar was a realized Master and had an extremely strict personality.
One day a disciple asked him, ‘Swamiji, when you achieved the state of nirvikalpa samadhi, you were still leading a family life at home, following the footsteps of your great Guru Yogiraj Lahiri Baba, so why was it necessary for you to become a monk of the monastic order and renounce family life?’
The great Guru answered with a smile, ‘God made me a monk’.
This answer is very simple and at the same time reveals a great spiritual truth.
